About

Lisa Dordal lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her partner, Laurie, and their two retired greyhounds. She received a Master of Fine Arts (in poetry) from Vanderbilt University in 2011 and a Master of Divinity, also from Vanderbilt, in 2005.

Her chapbook, Commemoration, is currently available from Finishing Line Press (https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=919). Here is a little bit about the book:

Commemoration moves from elegiac poems that respond to a mother’s alcoholism, death, and the heartbreaking ‘process of separating’ to those that chronicle ‘falling out of hiding’ into sexual awareness and fulfillment. Every poem in this collection is finely made, with quartz-like clarity and complexity; in sequence, they gain the undeniable urgency and inevitability of ‘atoms, quarks, and auras / and all the love that lies between.’ This is a wise and powerful collection.” Claudia Emerson, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Late Wife

Lisa’s poetry also has appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies including Sinister Wisdom, Cave Wall, Southern Women’s Review, The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, Bridges: A Jewish Feminist Journal, The Southern Poetry Anthology (Texas Review Press, forthcoming 2013),  Milk and Honey (A Midsummer Night’s Press, 2011) and Dog Blessings: Poems, Prose, and Prayers Celebrating Our Relationships with Dogs (New World Library, 2008).
